Blessing of Calvary War Memorial
Sunday 30 June, 12noon: Blessing of the Calvary War Memorial on Old Quebec Street
The restored Calvary War Memorial on the corner of Old Quebec Street and Bryanston Street will be blessed in a special community event on Sunday 30 June.
The date marks 100 years since the memorial's original unveiling, so it provides us with an opportunity to pay tribute to the sacrifice of the 69 soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War. The ceremony will be officiated by Revd (Capt). Thomas Sander, Rector of St. Giles in the Fields and Padre at The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. In addition to the ceremony, there will be an exhibition in the Church of the Annunciation exploring the stories of the individuals remembered on the monument, as well as sharing the rich history of the church and the memorial itself. And the Victory Services Club will be providing delicious refreshments!
