Our commitment to welcome
The Annunciation is committed to being a welcoming church for all visitors, worshippers and members of the local community. We recognise that the historic building presents access challenges, and improving accessibility is a central part of our future plans.
Current access challenges
As a Grade II* listed historic church, the building includes areas where access and facilities are limited. The existing building has barriers that can make community use and full participation more difficult for some visitors.
The church has acknowledged that its community engagement is hampered by lack of access and inadequate facilities. Addressing these issues is an important part of the Sharing our Future project.
Improving access through Sharing our Future
Through the Sharing our Future project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the church is working to improve the condition, accessibility and long-term sustainability of the building.
The project includes repair and conservation work, alongside re-ordering and access improvements, so that more people can use the church and its spaces.
Deaf community access
A key focus of the project is to create a stronger hub for the Deaf community in central London. This includes improving the church’s ability to welcome D/deaf visitors, worshippers and community groups.
The church is developing its facilities, interpretation and activities with D/deaf access in mind, including work connected with British Sign Language provision and wider participation.
